Are you looking after your eyes?
Vision is the sense we fear losing the most. Yet many of us neglect this essential
asset. In the UK, there are almost two million people living with sight loss. With
proper care, this number could be halved. Most children and adults visit the dentist
regularly, but this practice does not extend to eye examinations. Why is this? To find

One of a kind
Most eye examinations are carried out by high street optometrists. Any further
hospital treatment required is carried out by an ophthalmologist (a medical doctor
specialising in eye diseases). Optical Solutions is different. We are Scotland’s only
combined ophthalmic medical clinic and optical dispensing practice. Put simply, we
are best placed to look after your eyes. With over 25 years of medical expertise, Dr
Jonathan Whittle offers more than just a prescription. He is able to detect any
problems and initiate treatment immediately, with no lengthy hospital referral times.
What makes us the best?
Optical Solutions offers a genuinely unique service at an affordable price. We
combine unrivalled medical expertise with fashionable and great value eyewear, all
under one roof. With a personalised approach taken to each patient, customer
service truly is at our core. There are no upsides to putting off an eye test, yet the
downsides are … well, let’s not go there. In an age where supermarkets are offering
walk-in eye tests and examinations, we believe that there really is no substitute for

What others say
Rachel Groves – “As a family we’ve been going to Optical Solutions for many years and they are so much more than a high street optician. The very fact that Dr Whittle is an Ophthalmologist and therefore medically trained to look out for any particularly sight, or eye issues, underpins the confidence it is easy to have in the service. I’m happy to say we haven’t ever had any problems detected but the fact that they would be detected, in the young, or old, gives me the reassurance to have my own, my child’s and my parents’ eyes cared for by Optical Solutions. There is no difference in price compared to high street eye tests so why wouldn’t you trust such an important thing – as your sight – to the very best. Nothing is ever too much trouble to the Optical Solution team, whether it’s making an emergency or out of hours appointment, mending glasses, advising on frame shape or colour, or dipping, and redipping, sunglass lenses against colour charts to ensure they are absolutely perfect, and dark enough, for water sports. I can park without cost, or hassle. If only going to the dentist was so easy!”

Why choose Optical Solutions?
The best in medical expertise
Dr Jonathan Whittle is an ophthalmologist. This means he is a medically
qualified doctor who has then undertaken further specialist training in the
diagnosis and management of diseases of the eyes. In total, training can take
around 13 years. By contrast, an optometrist spends four years at university
followed by a trainee year. Dr Whittle also practices at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, and is involved in delivering post-graduate hands-on training to optometrists. Find out more by clicking to read our article Dr Jonathan Whittle, and what he can do for you.
Honest and impartial
At Optical Solutions, we regard eye examinations as a health check and not
merely a vehicle for selling glasses and contact lenses. If you don’t need new
glasses, you won’t be coerced into buying them.
Furthermore, we help people and consider the environment at home and overseas by recycling old glasses to the third world. To date we have passed on over 400 pairs of glasses many of which have been donated by patients and also some of our unsold stock of adults and children’s frames. We also give a monthly contribution to Sightsavers helping to make a difference between sight and blindness.
Optical Solutions is registered with the NHS to offer NHS eye examinations to
those who are eligible. This makes the service highly affordable. Our company
was founded in 2000 to bridge the gap between the NHS hospital eye service
and high street opticians, and does so with excellent value for money.
Furthermore, with low overheads, we are able to offer competitive prices for
our glasses and contact lenses.
